This St. John’s Angel is a replica from an 8th century Rinnagan plaque once used to protect the pages of an illuminated manuscript. Found in Co. Roscommon. He was fixed to a leather satchel which held the manuscript working like studs on a steamer trunk, he kept the leather from being torn while taken in and out of a saddle bag.
Irish angels are believed to be celestial talismans that bear blessings of great measure to those who wear them. They also represent Divine energy and travel to spiritual realms.
